Introduction
"Baby John" is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language action thriller directed by Kalees. The film stars Varun Dhawan as DCP Satya Verma, who fakes his death to protect his daughter from a dangerous politician, Babbar Sher, portrayed by Jackie Shroff. Keerthy Suresh, in her Hindi film debut, plays Meera, Satya's wife, while Wamiqa Gabbi appears as Adhira Verma, a police officer.
The narrative follows Satya Verma, a dedicated police officer who, after a tragic incident orchestrated by his adversary Babbar Sher, fakes his own death to safeguard his young daughter. Assuming a new identity as John D'Silva, he leads a quiet life in Kerala until circumstances force him to confront his past to protect his daughter.
The film was officially announced in July 2023 under the tentative title "VD18," marking Dhawan's 18th film as a leading actor. Principal photography commenced in August 2023, with filming locations including Mumbai and Kerala, and concluded in October 2024. The music for the film was composed by Thaman S, with cinematography by Kiran Koushik and editing by Ruben.
"Baby John" was released theatrically on December 25, 2024, coinciding with Christmas. The film received mixed reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office. As of January 2, 2025, it grossed approximately ₹41.88 crore in India and ₹13.66 crore internationally, totaling around ₹55.54 crore worldwide.
